So a friend here is putting together a video. On the video she wants to interview some staff and students and get their perspective. When I asked about the topic, she told me, "What has God done in your life during your DTS?"
Woah. Big question.
We've been here for nearly 8 weeks. 55 days. Around 160 hours of teachings on more than a dozen topics. We've done a prayer tour of the city. We've evangelized. We've done between 50 and 100 hours of work duties, depending on if your work duty takes an hour a day or two hours a day. We've studied India. We've studied Thailand. We took a tour of the House of Joy. We've laughed. We've cried. We've eaten together. We've prayed together.
And we still have another month before outreach.
What has God done?? So many things!!
The theme for my DTS has been "lay it on the altar." I believe I've mentioned this. If I were to go around and ask the other people, I'm willing to bet they'd have themes as well. Take my friend that is putting together the video. She has had nothing but illness while she has been here. Everything from insomnia, to a stomach virus, to kidney stones, to who knows what else. Yet, here is a quote from her blog that she posted today.
I never imagined that I would reach this point;
the weaker I feel in my physical body, the more my Spirit rises above in strength. This is both comforting and liberating.

Her theme is (whether she knows it or not) 2 Corinthians 12:8-10
Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me. And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
I have absolutely no idea what it means to be strong when you're weak, but I'll bet she does. She's living it.
There are 13 students here. Every one of them has a theme. I don't know what they all are, but God does. What's your theme? What has God been doing in your life?
Now I need to go read Isaiah some more. God keeps bringing me back to Isaiah. I don't know why yet.
When I think of strength in weakness good ol' Samwise always pops into my head, carrying Frodo that final leg of their journey to destroy the ring.
ReplyDeleteA theme recently for me? "Don't shy away from pain. You will live through it, and come out on the other side better than ever."
That's a good theme. :)
